The endowment, named the Zvi and Raquel Sudit Fund for Defense and Security after Sudit’s parents, has been funded by a gift of $25,000. The funds will be used to support research in the department that is related to the defense and security of the United States.

“On behalf of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, we are incredibly grateful for the contributions of Moises Sudit and his family to create the Zvi and Raquel Sudit Fund for Defense and Security,” said Robert Dell, chair of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. “The endowment will advance critical defense and security related research and create lasting opportunities for our faculty and students.”

Speaking on behalf of himself, his wife, and two siblings, Isaac and Isaias Sudit, Moises Sudit said that the endowment honors their beloved parents and reflects their deep gratitude and enduring appreciation for UB and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

“For nearly four decades, UB has been an integral part of our family’s journey. From the dedicated faculty in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences to the compassionate staff at Sponsored Projects Services (SPS) and across the university, we have built lifelong friendships and found true community,” said Moises Sudit.

He continued, “This endowment is a reflection of our sincere thanks and a hope for the future, that those who walk through UB’s classrooms will be inspired, supported and enriched, just as we were. May this contribution help others to experience the same sense of belonging, purpose and excellence that has meant so much to us.”

Moises Sudit came to UB in 1987. He has held multiple leadership positions during his time at UB, including as associate dean for research and graduate education in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and as UB’s associate vice president for sponsored research, where he managed the university’s $170 million Sponsored Projects Services and Technology Transfer office.

An expert in data fusion and military operations research, Moises Sudit is a member of a number of professional societies, including the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering, the International Society for Optical Engineering, and the International Society of Information Fusion. He is also the chief scientist for UB’s Collaborative Institute for Multisource Information Fusion.

Moises Sudit earned his PhD in operations research from Purdue University, his master’s degree in operations research from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

“The Â鶹´«Ã½o, and particularly the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, has been a strong supporter of its faculty,” said Sudit. “As educators, it is important that we set an example for alumni by giving back, thereby fostering a sense of belonging to the institution.”
