The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) has been recognized with a Buffalo-area Engineering Awareness for Minorities (BEAM) Member Recognition Award.
BEAM presented SEAS with the Â鶹´«Ã½o Champion Award, recognizing an institution that works to highlight BEAM and its programs. SEAS was recognized for its partnership with BEAM and influence on BEAM’s mission to increase the number of bright young minds entering engineering and technical careers.
“BEAM is such a wonderful partner, and we love what BEAM continues to do in and for our community,” said Kemper Lewis, dean of SEAS.
BEAM is a nonprofit organization committed to educating students in STEM fields by encouraging, supporting, and preparing students in the Buffalo area to pursue a career in a STEM or related technical field. The organization was founded in 1982 by a consortium of SEAS, Linde-Union Carbide, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Buffalo Public Schools.
SEAS continues to support BEAM by providing a physical space for their programs within the school and connecting them with student groups.
Sujata Rawal, SEAS assistant dean for facilities, planning and management, accepted the award on behalf of SEAS at an award ceremony on June 18.
