Julie Gorlewski, PhD '08, EdM '92

Julie Gorlewski is the Klara and Larry Silverstein Dean of the School of Education at Hunter College, part of the City University of New York. She earned her B.S. in secondary English education from SUNY Buffalo State and her M.S. and Ph.D. from the Âé¶¹´«Ã½o. Her teaching history spans Pre-K through graduate school; as a high school English teacher, she launched an ESL program, coordinated K–12 language arts and instructional technology and founded a high school learning center.

In higher education, she held tenure-track roles at SUNY New Paltz and Virginia Commonwealth University, where she chaired the department of teaching and learning. Returning to UB, she served as professor, department chair and senior associate dean.

Gorlewski has authored over a dozen books and numerous scholarly works, and presented nationally and internationally. Her service includes editing English Journal, co-directing the Equity and Social Justice Conference, and serving on state and national education boards.
