The Clinical Research Center (CRC) — located in the UB Clinical and Translational Science Institute— is a seven-room, full-service outpatient research clinic. As an investigator conducting studies in the CRC, you can expect a wide range of equipment and services to support your work. We’ll help you, your staff and your trainees access the services your research requires.

We offer clinical services including:

• assessment of vital signs
• electrocardiogram
• phlebotomy services, including pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic sampling
• local laboratory processing for results and laboratory processing for central lab shipment
• intravenous line placement and maintenance
• urine collection and urine pregnancy testing
• shipment of central lab specimens
• investigational drug administration and post administration monitoring
• investigational drug storage and accountability
• participant interviews and administration of study questionnaires
• basic nutritional services
• short-term storage of frozen specimens in preparation for shipment to a central laboratory facility

Additionally, you may conduct procedures that can be performed safely with a minimum of discomfort — where the likelihood of complications requiring hospitalization is minimal — or procedures performed with local or topical anesthesia.

Our facility includes a reception area; charting station computers with Internet access and a scanner, copier and shredder; and exam rooms with basic clinical supplies.

We have integrated wall systems for complete physical assessment. A wall system includes:

• automated blood pressure and heart rate monitor
• oral and tympanic thermometers
• pulse oximeter
• otoscope
• ophthalmoscope

We also offer equipment and supplies including:

• portable vital sign monitors including aneroid cuffs
• interpretive portable EKG machine
• infusion pumps
• hospital beds in two rooms and recliners in four rooms
• in-room, Internet capable computers
• complete phlebotomy capabilities
• glucometer
• stadiometer and scales
• refrigerated centrifuge and ambient temperature centrifuge

Our cold storage equipment includes:

• temperature-monitored minus 20 C freezer and minus 70 C freezer for short term specimen holding 
• temperature-monitored refrigerator for short term specimen holding

Our facility contains pharmacy equipment including secure room storage for ambient medications and secure storage of controlled substances.

We offer emergency equipment including:

• portable suction
• automated external defibrillator
• portable oxygen
• transport stretcher and wheelchair
