About Gaitrie Subryan
Gaitrie Subryan, CEL '25, BA '06, is the Founder and Artistic Director of Devi Performing Arts, a cultural arts studio dedicated to preserving and sharing traditional Indian dance and storytelling while creating inclusive, community-centered spaces for exploration and expression. With over 15 years of experience as a performer, teaching artist, choreographer, and cultural educator, Gaitrie’s work bridges generations, disciplines, and cultures.
As a Guyanese-American artist rooted in the Indian dance from across India, including Indian Classical dance, Kathak, Folk dance, Garba and Bollywood dance. She uses movement, her rich cultural upbringing, and narrative to explore themes of identity, heritage, healing, and belonging. Her studio serves as a vibrant hub for multicultural programming, youth engagement, and intergenerational learning.
A proud Âé¶¹´«Ã½o alum, Gaitrie recently completed the UB Emerging Entrepreneurs program through the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership in June 2025. She is also a 2024 fellow of the Buffalo Society of Artists and a former Creatives Rebuild New York grantee, recognized for her leadership in arts, education, and community building across Western New York. Most recently, her dance group, Devi Bollywood, won Best Dance Troupe in Buffalo for The Best of WNY 2025, hosted by Buffalo Spree.
Gaitrie is committed to using the arts as a tool for cultural preservation and social change, creating spaces that invite dialogue, celebrate heritage, and inspire joy.
