Are decentralized clinical trials (DCTs) truly delivering on their promise to improve research efficiency — and how can we make them more effective now?

A webinar covering this topic on August 6 will highlight the RISE (Remote vs. In-person Study Evaluation) trials — an NCATS-funded initiative across four CTSA hubs. Â鶹´«Ã½o Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Collaborative and Innovative Acceleration Award (CCIA) grant leaders (UB’s Larry Hawk, PhD, and Roswell Park’s Martin Mahoney, MD, PhD) with partner CTSAs (South Carolina, Alabama, and Pennsylvania, are studying remote clinical trials.

The webinar will feature insights from Drs. Martin Mahoney and Jennifer Dahne (South Carolina) on trial design choices, participant preferences, and the balance between scientific rigor and real-world feasibility. The session will also showcase publicly available tools developed by the South Carolina Clinical and Translational Research (SCTR) Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina to support decentralized research — helping researchers prevent fraudulent enrollment, improve sample diversity, and enable remote biomarker capture.
