The American Educational Research Association (AERA) Dissertation Grant Program seeks to stimulate research on U.S. education issues using data from the large-scale, national and international data sets supported by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), NSF, and other federal agencies. Grants of up to $20,000 are available for advanced doctoral students in education, sociology, economics, psychology, demography, statistics and psychometrics.

The Buffalo branch of the American Association of Women (AAUW) provides additional financial support to college students in the Western New York area in the form of specialized loans, grants or scholarships. The funds include several named awards. Applicants must demonstrate superior academic achievement, have potential for achieving their academic and career goals, and for some of the awards, show financial need.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has a diverse set of fellowships and grants for women pursuing research, certificates or advanced degrees. Some campus initiatives may be eligible for our community grants. There is also a new publication grant for engineering, medicine and science. The goal is to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education and advocacy.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Dissertation Fellowship is dedicated to helping women succeed academically. The program provides funding for women pursuing full-time study to complete dissertations. The purpose of this fellowship is to offset the scholar’s living expenses while she completes her dissertation. The total award amount is $20,000.

The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell) offers scholarships and financial aid for students who are deaf or hard of hearing as well as funding for individuals training to be Listening and Spoken Language Specialists.

The AHA Predoctoral Fellowship aims to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising students who are matriculated in pre-doctoral or clinical health professional degree training programs and who intend careers as scientists, physician-scientists or other clinician-scientists, or related careers aimed at improving global cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and brain health.

The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) fellowship program provides opportunities to doctoral candidates to engage in dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies. The program is designed to contribute to the development and improvement of the study of modern foreign languages and area studies in the United States.

American Councils has administered grants in support of research in a range of disciplines and geographies for over 30 years. Through a strong presence overseas and a network of scholars and institutional partners, they connect grantees with the resources they need to achieve their research goals. Funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (Title VIII), American Councils offers two research grants: the Title VIII Research Scholar Program and the Title VIII Combined Research & Language Training Program (CRLT).

The Voyager Scholarship was created by the Obamas and Brian Chesky, Co-Founder and CEO of Airbnb, to help shape such leaders. This is a two-year leadership development and scholarship program. Through a transformational combination of barrier-reducing financial aid, an immersive work-travel experience, and a robust network of leaders and mentors, the Voyager Scholarship is designed to inspire, empower, and connect the next generation of leaders and equip them with the tools and resources they need to launch their careers in public service. Over the course of two years, programming will facilitate opportunities for students to refine their values-based leadership approach, build bridges across communities, and nurture their sense of curiosity as they deepen their commitment to pursuing public service careers.

The Samuel Huntington Public Service Award provides $30,000 stipends for graduating college seniors to pursue one year of public service anywhere in the world. The award allows recipients to engage in a meaningful public service activity for one year before proceeding on to graduate school or a career. Projects that have the potential to be sustainable are favored, and therefore many of the projects initiated by past award recipients continue to benefit people today.
