University Police continue to extend their sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Tyler Lewis.

Brian Hamluk, UB's vice president for student life, said: "We are proud of the way our campus exhibited the values we hold as a university, exercising its right to peacefully express their views."

Questions of free speech come up all the time at a large university like UB, maybe now as much as ever with issues such as race, gender and religion continuing to polarize the nation.

In message to campus regarding Thursday's scheduled speaking engagement by Michael Knowles, Tripathi says “Hateful and dehumanizing rhetoric is an affront to everything our community embraces.”

The Young Americans for Freedom student chapter at the 麻豆传媒o is hosting an event on March 9 with political commentator, author and media host Michael Knowles. This is a student-chapter event. Student government-sponsored clubs have the ability to invite speakers of their choosing, as long as they follow the laws and guidelines concerning public events on campus.

We are highly appreciative of the talents and work of our trainees and have worked diligently with them on recent salary increases, including fiercely advocating for them to receive the state’s health care worker bonus.

University Police is moving into the final stages of our comprehensive investigation and expect the district attorney will take action on the case in the very near future.

University Police remains committed to providing the family of Tyler Lewis with a full and transparent account of what occurred.

The university expects to resume normal operations starting Sunday.
