Vice Dean and Chief of Staff
School of Social Work
Heather is recognized for her work in the School of Social Work where she:
- Surveyed faculty and staff to understand the culture of accessibility in the school and to asses their proficiency with digital accessibility.
- Surveyed students to determine the use of accommodations within the School, the degree to which faculty were receptive to and followed student accommodation needs, and the degree to which students felt comfortable with the culture of accessibility in the School.
- Spearheaded the School's Accessibility Committee.
- Collaborates with university colleagues to develop an accessibility course in UB Learns.
Associate Director, Operations and Special Events
Career Design Center
Jenna is recognized for her work in the Career Design Center (CDC) where she:
- Works closely with current and prospective vendors to educate them about accessibility standards and the critical importance of meeting those standards.
- Collaborates with university partners to gain their input where needed and promote awareness of accessibility in CDC platforms.
- Led the charge to ensure that the CDC website and tools that are extensively used by the campus community are in compliance.
- Scheduled accessibility training for the CDC staff and trained new colleagues on digital accessibility.
Senior Designer
University Communications
Rick is recognized for his work in University Communications where he:
- Collaborated with Nick Peterson to help ensure UB is well-positioned to create and deploy accessible emails through the Marketing Cloud platform. Through their work, they have been an "effective accessibility tag team," to ensure the campus-wide rollout of Marketing Cloud conforms to accessibility standards.
- Built accessible email templates for the Marketing Cloud pilot teams.
- Prioritized accessibility in review of content blocks and addressed issues prior to approving assets.
Marketing and Digital Media Specialist, Marketing and Communications
School of Dental Medicine
Cass is recognized for his work in the School of Dental Medicine where he:
- Has shown a deep commitment to accessibility best practices and to educating his colleagues on the critical need for inclusive digital environments. His proactive approach has empowered members of the school to join in the effort to reduce barriers for individuals with physical, sensory and cognitive impairments, creating better and more inclusive experiences for all.
- Organized accessibility training sessions for faculty and staff to build awareness and proficiency when creating accessible content.
- Ensures that his work follows best practices, including website updates, social media posts, accessible emails, color contrast in both digital and print.
- Led efforts to significantly reduce the number of accessibility issues reported in Siteimprove.
Digital Products and User Experience Manager
University Communications
Nick is recognized for his work in University Communications where he:
- Collaborated with Rick Klingensmith to help ensure UB is well-positioned to create and deploy accessible emails through the Marketing Cloud platform. Through their work, they have been an "effective accessibility tag team," to ensure the campus-wide rollout of Marketing Cloud conforms to accessibility standards.
- Developed a proof-of-concept for a modular approach to creating accessible, stylized emails with Marketing Cloud.
- Worked closely with the Marketing Cloud consultant to provide detailed feedback regarding accessibility guidelines, best practices, challenges and concerns with the coding of assets.
Instructional Support Specialist
School of Social Work
Steve is recognized for his work in the School of Social Work (SSW) where he:
- Spearheaded largely self-directed initiatives to ensure that all faculty and students have the best possible experiences in virtual classes.
- Initiated and held trainings for full- and part-time faculty on accessible syllabi, using Brightspace tools to ensure course materials are accessible, and learning how to leverage ChatGPT and other tools to improve accessibility.
- Collaborated with Curriculum Assessment and Teaching Transformation to conduct a needs assessment of full- and part-time faculty members' readiness to meet the coming ADA Title II regulations.
