UB Votes Initiative

UB Votes Committee is a non-partisan, campus-wide effort charged with increasing voter registration and engagement among UB community members in national, state-wide, local, and campus elections through direct voter contact strategies. 
 
UB Votes fosters a civic engagement environment where students can register to vote before and after National Voter Registration Day, and learn about voter education in content-neutral, non-partisan formats during National Voter Education Week.

Voting in New York State

If you want to vote in an election, you must be . Voter registration forms are always available in the Student Engagement office. Please note that the following information is only for domestic (not international) students. Students from out of state can contact the Community & Civic Engagement Team for further assistance.  
 
During the New York State Early Voting Period, any students registered to vote with an on-campus address or registered in Erie County can vote at any Early Voting Polling Site in the county.

Key Dates for 2025

  • October 21, 2025: Last day for Absentee Ballot Application by Mail & Online
  • October 25, 2025: Last day of Voter Registration
  • October 25 - November 3, 2025: Early Voting Period
  • November 3, 2025: Absentee Ballot Application Deadline (in-person drop-off) 
  • November 4, 2025: Absentee Ballots need to be postmarked by this date
  • November 4, 2025: Election Day (Polls open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM)

Important Information:

  • To vote at your local “school” address in Erie County, put your school address as the address where you live (line #8).
  • If you would like to vote at your permanent address but will not be in your hometown on Election Day, and you are not registered to vote, then send the voter registration form to the Board of Elections Office for your home county after checking off the box that says "Yes, I need an application for an Absentee Ballot."
