Our Insight publication issued in the fall and spring of each year is a quick glance at the achievements, recognitions and the numbers behind our numerous programs and services.

This edition of INSIGHT explores how Student Life programming helps students develop both new and existing leadership skills, while also providing opportunities for volunteering and community engagement.

In the spirit of service.

Student leaders participate in a variety of programs and services in support of the student experience.

  • 1000+ people toured the newly launched True Blue Tour Room, led by student guide hosts over the course of Open House, Discovery Day, and Fall  Open House events.
  • Student peer mentors in Accessibility Resources created workshops and programming delivered through the Institute of Trauma and Trauma Informed Care and with the Intercultural and Diversity Center.
  • 59 Campus Dining and Shops student leaders successfully completed the Here to Career+ program focusing on Leadership, Equity and Inclusion, and Teamwork.
  • 41 Health Promotion programs for  sexual violence prevention have been delivered since the Fall 2024 semester by peer educators, making a total of 343 student contacts.
  • 500 pieces of fruit were prepared weekly by students for Snacking Tuesday events across all three campuses.
  • 95% of student parapros confirmed that the scenario training ‘Behind  Closed Doors’ gave them tangible opportunities to practice confronting difficult decisions.

Students want to lead—and keep coming back!

There are over 2,000 student organization leaders.

  • 244 students applied to be an Orientation Leader, and an additional 217 applied to be Welcome Weekend Leaders in the Spring of 2024.
  • 225+ student applications were submitted in Spring 2025 to become a Diversity Advocate within the Intercultural and Diversity Center.
  • 100% of currently enrolled peer mentors and student workers in Accessibility Resources were retained in the program and in their employment from last year.
  • 90 Number of hours spent by students enrolled in Leadership House, a leadership and development  program.
  • 100 student leaders and 50 mentors attended the Next Level Leadership Mentoring Conference, hosted by Student Engagement.
  • 97% of the surveyed WNY Sophomore Externship Experience participants feel they are better prepared to motivate themselves or others in advancing an idea.

Student leaders excel at UB and in the community.

The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) awarded Health Promotion with the Outstanding Peer Education Program Award.

  • 92% of supervisors confirmed they would consider hiring their  Internship Equity Fund student interns in the Fall of 2024. 
  • 2,900 hours of service were performed by 35 students enrolled and  placed by Empire State Service Corps.
  • 113 student research positions comprising of 77 different research projects across seven decanal units were funded by the Undergraduate Research Project. 
  • 200+ student volunteers rotate weekly within the Food Recovery  Network to assist in securing food for those in need in the WNY community.
  • 952 students voted on North and near South Campus, made possible by the leadership of the Ambassadors of Civic Engagement, who interacted with 627 voters this academic year.
  • 2,179 service hours were completed this academic year by the Intercultural and Diversity Center’s Diversity Advocates.
