Paying for college at UB. Billing How
UB sends an email notification each time a billing statement is generated. This email is a notification that an online bill has been generated. It is not the actual bill. This email is sent to your @buffalo.edu account to let you know your online bill is ready. You will not receive a paper bill. The notification email is NOT your actual eBill. It DOES include information on how to access and read your eBill, such as:
Billing WHEN. Typically the month before classes start.
Bills are generated. See UB's website for specific billing dates for each term /studentaccounts/billing/billing-dates.html
After the bill is generated and before classes start, you must submit payment in full or. Enroll in a payment plan.
See UB's website for more information on payment plans /studentaccounts/payments/payment-plan.html
Please note. If you register for classes on or after your eBill is generated, you will be billed for those changes after add/drop is over. Those changes made after your bill has already been generated will appear in your next eBill. Any late payments are assessed a late fee.
Billing WHERE.
To access the QuikPAY billing system in HUB, click the Billing/Payments tile. Next click payment options. Notice the QuikPAY menu on the left side. Click View & Pay Accounts. From there you can view and or print your eBill. See UB's website for more information on how to access and read your bill. /studentaccounts/payments/pay-your-bill.html
Billing WHAT.
UB generates a billing statement for the current semester, not the entire year. The billing statement includes Your Name, Your UB-ID. Invoice, Amount Due, Invoice Date.
Tuition and Fees Breakdown.
New York State resident
Tuition: Living in New York State for college does NOT automatically make you a state resident! Your residency and your tuition rate is determined at Admission. Twelve (12) months duration of instate permanent domicile is required or New York State residency. Proof of New York State domicile for the past 12 months PRIOR to the start of the term for which you applied is required. Failure to provide all required documents by your department's deadline will result in financial responsibility for out-of-state tuition. Contact the department you are applying to. For more information about state residency.
UB only charges tuition for the credit hours you are registered for at the time of billing. If you have not registered for all classes at the time of billing you will see additional tuition and fee charges over the course of two billing statements. Additionally, the Current Activity tab and QuikPAY includes charges that take place after the bill is generated. See UB's website for more information on tuition and fees: /studentaccounts/tuition-and-fees.html
All students are charged mandatory broad-based fees, regardless of the mode of instruction: In-person, remote, online or hybrid. Bills may include additional fees for classes that require a lab charge or other special fees. International students are automatically charged for health insurance each year. If you have other health insurance coverage, you must submit a waiver request online each year. eBills also record all credits such as payments, deposits and any anticipated financial aid. Credits are subtracted from charges to calculate the Amount Due.
For financial aid to be deducted on your bill, you must complete all related HUB To-Do list items. Financial aid missing from your bill may indicate that you have outstanding HUB To-Do list items. New items can be added at any time. Check frequently. Questions about any missing aid should be directed to the financial aid office. .
Billing WHO. Who can access QuikPAY?
You as a student can access QuikPAY. You as a student can also create accounts for authorized payers to access QuikPAY. An authorized payer is a family member or spouse who can access eBills, make payments, and enroll in a payment plan. See UB's website. For more information on setting up authorized payers. /studentaccounts/payments/authorized-payers.html
Additional Bill Pay info: When paying in full, most students pay online. Common online payment methods include:
See UB's website for more information about how to pay your bill. /studentaccounts/payments/pay-your-bill.html
Additional Bill Pay info: Paying in installments: To pay in installments, spread out over time. Enroll in a Payment Plan. Enroll in a Payment Plan in QuikPAY. QuikPAY will then give you a contract with payment dates specified. There is a $45 non-refundable enrollment fee during the semester. Payments are automatically deducted from either a U.S. bank account or credit card. You must re-enroll in a new Payment Plan each fall in spring. See UB's website for more information on payment plans. /studentaccounts/payments/payment-plan.html
Refunds.
It is highly recommended that you enroll in direct deposit for financial aid refunds. Direct deposit refunds are received much faster, generally within forty-eight (48) hours. If you are not enrolled, it takes two weeks or longer for a mailed paper check. Direct deposit also safeguards against paper check loss or theft. Checks lost in the mail (or in your room) are common. Having direct deposit means your money isn't sent to unclaimed funds. Enroll in direct deposit in QuikPAY under Manage Refunds. This is where you provide your bank account information. See UB's website for more information on direct deposit of refunds. /studentaccounts/refunds.html
Billing in summary. Make a plan for payment success. Make a fiscally responsible plan for paying your bill. Take care of your HUB To-Do list items as they are added. Set up Authorized Payor access as desired. International students will waive or pay the health insurance charge every year. Sign up for direct deposit of refunds to avoid lost checks. Watch for additional bills throughout the term. Contact student accounts to ask questions if you need help. See the Student Accounts website for more information on the topics covered in this video.
